Website & the Dentist from hell

Labels: , , ,

I have just finished (well almost) the new website for our gite.

It still needs a few tweaks here & there, but all in all I'm quite happy with it.
Give it a try & let me know. Just click the word gite.

I didn't get to post a blog yesterday as I had been back to the French dentist I have learnt to hate. She gave me the injection after she had prodded about & inflicted as much pain as she thought she could get away with. Three injections later she got her little black & decker drill out & started grinding away through my tooth & it felt out of the bottom of my jaw. When she finally realised I was still in pain, she stopped & asked if it still hadn't gone numb. Had my French been better, I could have told her that my nose & right ear were numb, but the tooth no.
All I could muster was the international sound that everyone knows as "WTF do you think".
Now this I think might have upset her as she then turned the drill back on, set it to hammer action & continued attacking the tooth.
When I eventually came around, she said "that the cavity was very deep & had to be filled three times." It was so deep because she had drilled it so deep & wide. I'm sure with the hole being so large I had some subsidence at some point & in consequence my right ear is now lower than it was.
The worst part of all, is that after she had finished the torture, she then stood & asked for her 100€ for the pain she had inflicted, gave me a quote for 400€ to inflict more pain & told me I had two more appointments with her as she had found another cavity (or created one).

Blogging all over the world

Labels: , , ,

How many times have you sat there in front of your computer after checking your blog & seen the "next blog" button. You hit it & then you hit it again & again & again until eventually you hit upon a blog written in English. You read it & then you're back to the next blog button. I do it all the time. Sometimes I start clicking it at 6pm & before I know it it's 8pm. Addictive?, maybe.

But if I see a blog that I like, I leave a comment. I always look at the "blog of note" each day & if I like it I will leave another comment.
But today on the news it was reported that social networks are inhibiting social interaction.
I don't think so.
Without these sites would you ever of left or received comments from people from other countries.
No.
When I was young we had pen pals. You wrote a letter, put it in an envelope, put a stamp on it & posted it.
Today, posting is what i'm doing now. It's just spelt "blogging".
These people who have been paid to do this survey of social inhibition due to the internet today, should get a life.
I can think of lots of better things the money could of been spent on.
What about.............actually let me know with the poll on the right.

Overnight blog success

Labels: , , ,

Yes you all know what this sign is. It's all about airing your dirty laundry isn't it. Or is it about having your own anonymous diary on the net where you can make yourself sound like the best thing since sliced bread. Or maybe you are not Mr. or Mrs. ordinary & you want to tell the world all about yourself & how well your life is going. Which ever one of the above you are, you will be disappointed, well to start with anyway. When you first start your blog you will have very few people reading it except friends & family. But over time it will increase. But slowly. There is no such thing as an over night success. It takes a lot of work, well a lot of thinking to come up with the idea for a successful site. That's because the most successful sites are things that you would never of thought of or are so simple that you would never of thought of. But occasionally, just occasionally some blogger out there who has been tapping away for months or years types something that Mr. or Mrs. anonymous or ordinary likes & they send it to their friend & they send it to their friend, & all of a sudden, they have a very popular site. People are clicking their ads & they're making money from their online diary. They have become an overnight success. But has it really taken them just overnight?

Gadgets and how to break them

Labels: , , , , ,

I have finally agreed with my wife that I am addicted to gadgets. Before I used to adjust the satellite dish until I had the best signal strength, then I would scan all possible channels to find the most obscure things that we would never watch.

It's not just gadgets, I will try to adjust anything to make it work better. Usually it ends up with me having to repair it but at least you know how it works (or how it should work).
The central heating, kitchen drawers, tools, the wood burner, toilets, showers, lighting circuits, cookers anything that is in the house I've had a go at (and broken normally).
Now I have now found a new gadget to play with. This is it, you're reading it. Yes blogs and anything to do with the web. We also have a gite here in France that I have created a web site for. So a blog and a web site, seems straight forward enough. That's until I discovered Google Analytics. It enables you to follow the way your site or blog is performing on the web, and make changes to improve it. It is my new obsession, & this way the only thing I can break is the web. So if for some reason your connection goes down it might just be.............................
